new lake ave design

You Found It!

I've placed my portfolio here to keep my skill set separate from the main focus of our web site. I am available to help with your web and graphic needs but on a part time basis.

If you have a project and would like my expertise please contact me.

The projects I present here are my favorites for their style and solutions. Most were actually used but a few were just ideas.

hokanson dix

Hokanson Dix Glass

I love designing sites for these two very talented artists whose specialty is blown glass art pieces.

The home page was designed to express how these artists create their glass art as if it is a painting.

The site also features a different treatment for the logo and an expanded gallery of glass art utilizing the mediabox "lightbox" clone script. I chose this one of the many out there for its ability to resize the image based on browser window size.

rack card

Rack Card Design

I designed this rack card for Claudia to distribute at local businesses.

I wanted to achieve a design that was a bit edgy and include the graphic of the pink dress that she uses.

I figured that if the card was of interest people would turn it over to get the information they needed to contact her.

While designing this I kept finding myself getting close to what I wanted to achieve but never quite there. So, I would like to thank my former Graphic Design professor for the much needed assist.

long island cauliflower association

L. I. Cauliflower

This client used to be a provider of wholesale seed and chemicals to area farmers. Most of the farms are now gone and they now have become a home and garden supplier and opened their doors to the general public. A message that wasn't getting out there. The site is a redesign to help in increasing their visibility in a highly competitive local market.

I like it because I was able to give a "Web 2.0" feel to an industry that is really all about getting your hands dirty.

ccli

CCLI

This client was referred to me by a computer repair service that I deal with from time to time. The site's server had been hacked and a malicious line of code was redirecting users to that fake virus scan site. I fixed it and while discussing the fix with owner suggested that he get his site redesigned.

I like this design for its clean, crisp look and feel. The design features several mini-galleries of the construction projects this company has completed or is in the process of completing.

ds real estate

DS Real Estate

In 2007 during the height of the real estate boom I was working in a local sign shop. A client, who was starting a new brokerage, had come in for some yard signs but didn't have a logo. Never one to pass up side work I suggested that I come up with some ideas for her.

This final version worked in many ways for her. The D and S in the name - with a little tweaking - turned into the wrought iron railing that is present on many high end homes out here. The rest of the treatment gave it that certain modern feel that she desired.

css zen garden

CSS Zen Garden

About 4 years ago when I was in the process of learning CSS design principles I came across the web site CSS Zen Garden which showcases excellence in CSS based design. The site accepts submissions from designers for styling their XHTML web page.

I gave it a shot and didn't make it. Now that time has passed and I have acquired some skills I can see why. What I present here is a revamped version of what I had submitted.

east end lighthouses

East End Lighthouses

I designed this logo for an Eastern Long Island lighthouse preservation group that my father had founded.

While I was doing some research for this I came across some of the original architectural drawings for the lighthouse this group was rebuilding and decided to recreate the lantern room from these drawings for the logo.

The font choice was due the fact that the larger serifs reminded me of the tips of boat anchors.

air flair art

Air Flair Art

A site redesign for a very talented and busy air brush artist from eastern Pennsylvania. Their new site organizes his large body of work in various Lightbox galleries which are presented using sliding panels.

The site also includes pricing and a PHP contact form.

This is another example of my experiments with a single page layout.

hokanson dix ad idea

Hokanson Dix Ad Layout

I created this ad layout for these artists after they had sent me a proof of an ad they were placing in a local art publication.

The proof was going to use the older logo I had designed for them. The logo was one of my earlier designs (large graphic, small type - what can I say it's a process) and as a result in order for the logo type to be readable the logo overpowered the image of the glass art.

So this was my idea and I feel that it ties into the new web site very well.

brand motion

Brand Motion

A few years ago I was working with a prospective client for her new site that was promoting her corporate pep talk mumbo jumbo service. I was surprised to find out how many of these services - I use that term loosely - were out there.

This is not an actual business web site but one that I created to poke fun at this totally useless "industry".

I also needed to practice some newly learned CSS web layout techniques.
