Reupholstered Bedroom Chair
Front view of the completed chair with new cushion covers. Due to the size of the print on the fabric I opted to paint the legs which were originally covered with fabric.
Rear view and please take note of the alignment of the pattern from the front view to the back view. A fabric pattern like this will increase the yardage required.
Chair without the cushions. I am very happy with the way I was able to align the fabric's pattern.
Chair prior to reupholstering. The client had purchased the chair from a local consignment store where we had left business cards just a few days before.
Reupholstered Love Seat
Front view of the completed love seat with new cushion covers.
Rear view and I would like to note that, believe it or not, there is a vertical seam in the center of the back panel. Interesting pattern matching challenge.
Love seat prior to starting of the reupholstering project.
This view shows the seat after rebuilding the seat deck and prior to reupholstering. The spring webbing was badly stretched and needed to be replaced which also meant that the springs had to be retied.
Reupholstered Spoon Back Chair
Completed chair.
The process of removing the old fabric has just begun. Notice the the uneven deck.
The chair is completely stripped of the old fabric. Take note of the poor condition of the springs. Not shown is the reconstruction of the left front leg. Here I tighten frame.
The springs have been re-tied and the spring webbing has been replaced.
Reupholstered Tufted Chairs
Completed chair.
The chair with the old fabric.
Getting ready to start tying the buttons on the seat. The button pockets have been sewn in and the cord is threaded.
Looks like a mess doesn't it? We were about halfway through tufting the seat back here.
Reupholstered Love Seat
Completed love seat with new fabric, double welting and the frame cleaned up. The seat cushion also has a new cover (not shown). A few minor repairs to the springs and frame were also required.
Shown here is the removal of the old fabric in progress. This piece is a good example of the biggest piece we are able to work on.
Detail of the completed arm. Care was taken to make sure that the stripes on the seat bottom and the back matched. With this pattern it was critical that the fabric was tightened properly (straight).
This photo of the love seat details of how bad the fabric had deteriorated. Here is the seat with the welting removed and the process of removing all the old fasteners and glue just starting.
Chair Restoration
This is the completed chair that I had restored. I had stripped and refinished the legs and arms. I installed new webbing and springs. For the fill I wanted to make an attempt at using more traditional materials and techniques. Finding the horse hair was a challenge and building up the seat was a real challenge but I am pleased with result especially for a first attempt.
Another view of the chair.
This is the chair as it looked when I found it while cleaning out our basement. As beat up as it appeared it was still comfortable.
When I had finished stripping all the fabric, fill, springs and webbing I removed the arms for repair and refinishing and gave the frame a twist. Well, all the joints just let go. Here is what I ended up with.
Restored Toy Box
View of the outside of the toy box after restoration. This box has a lot of sentimental value to the client and she requested that we keep the appearance as close to the original as possible. I had a lot of fun with project. I almost felt guilty charging for it.
View of the toy box prior to restoration.
The inside of the toy box is completely rebuilt with new hinges, chain and inside walls.
The inside before stripping down to the frame which I discovered was an old (1950's ?) shipping crate complete with the cardboard sides that listed the contents of the crate.
Reupholstered Chair
Front and back of a small chair. The frame was completely stripped of fabric and painted.
Detail showing how we were able to wrap the welting around the scroll work that was previously hidden by the old fabric.
Assorted Reupholstered Slip Seats
One of six dining room chair seats with removable skirt. The client wanted the new fabric to match the color scheme of the room.
Another set of Dining Room chair seats that we had replaced the old foam and recovered with new fabric. The old cushion is in the front.
